WG Digitalisation Meeting Highlights: Advancing Dialogue on E-Government and AI in Social Insurance
An interview with Katarzyna Kamizelich-Sroka, KRUS
The Working Group on Digitalisation convened in June 2025 to continue its role as a platform for exchanging best practices and fostering dialogue on the digital transformation of social insurance and accident prevention. Established during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Group addresses the growing importance of digital tools and strategies in ensuring effective, accessible, and resilient social security systems.
Key Topics of the June Meeting
During the June session, members explored several issues at the intersection of digitalisation, occupational safety, and social security:
- European Social Security Card (ESSPASS): As part of the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan, this initiative aims to make it easier for individuals to exercise their social security rights while working or residing in another EU country.
- Digital approach to occupational health and safety: Within the framework of the International Social Security Association’s Prevention 4.0 campaign, members discussed how artificial intelligence can be applied in the workplace—not only to prevent accidents but also to assist with daily tasks.
- The “Figital” concept: This innovative approach addresses new fire-prevention challenges linked to the increasing use of digital devices both in workplaces and beyond.
Progress and Challenges
WG Digitalisation’s value lies in providing a forum for sharing experiences across Europe and beyond and addressing the most pressing and current issues in social insurance and workplace safety. This flexible approach allows the Group to remain responsive to emerging developments, including rapid advances in AI and digitalisation.
Priorities for the Coming Term
Looking ahead, the WG Digitalisation will maintain its focus on:
- Digitalisation of administrative processes (e-government).
- Projects and initiatives to improve digital accessibility.
- Reflecting on both the positive and negative aspects of digitalisation in social insurance.
Contribution to the European Forum
The WG Digitalisation contributes to the European Forum’s broader mission by facilitating the exchange of expertise on digitalisation and AI in social insurance and in the prevention of work-related accidents and occupational diseases. By connecting experts and encouraging dialogue, the Group strengthens the Forum’s collective capacity to adapt to digital transformation.
Collaboration and Future Outlook
At present, WG Digitalisation does not pursue fixed collaborations or partnerships but remains open to new ideas and potential cooperation with EU institutions, other working groups, or external stakeholders. This openness ensures that the Group can respond effectively to future opportunities and challenges in the digitalisation of social security systems. ●
