Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försakringskassan)
Basis principle
Separate and compulsory social insurance scheme mainly financed by contributions covering employees and self-employed and providing mainly earnings-related cash benefits.
Financial compensation
Annuity
The main criterion to assess entitlement to the annuity relates to the reduced earning capacity of the injured person, i.e. the income loss must be at least 1/15th of the annual income and for at least one year ahead. The amount of income loss also needs to be at least one quarter of the price basic amount for one year. The annuity aims at compensating income loss due to occupational injury and is therefore granted even when the person continues working full time.
Necessary expenses
Coverage for necessary expenses for dental care, assistive devices and medical care abroad, related to an accident at work or occupational disease, can be provided if all the requirements are met.
Sickness benefit
Occupational injury sickness benefit can be paid if the person has an occupational injury and is studying, needs to refrain from work for preventative purposes, or if the person is no longer insured for sickness benefit, but the occupational injury is due to previous work in Sweden.

Rehabilitation of victims of occupational injuries responsibilities
The Swedish Social Insurance Agency has the responsibility to notice needs of rehabilitation for the ill person and to coordinate the rehabilitation needed, but has no responsibility for the rehabilitation as such. The Agency thereby facilitates for the person to come in contact with the person´s employer, health care representatives, the Swedish Public Employment Service and other institutions whose services may be needed.
